First of all, there is no 'fast' internet on the island.

To the initiated, DSL is not fast. Every Wi-Fi I've WarDiven is DSL or worse. Clearwire or Oceanic, it's all the same.

Second, the traffic is really, really congested.

Third, the rent is 3-4 times what you're used to. A three bedroom, free standing hale on the lower half of Oahu with 1200-1500 sq feet is 3-5 thousand dollars a month, depending on the level of crappiness you want. And there is a lot of crap out here. As a rule, Hawaiians don't believe in upgrading.
